The British Schools East Midlands cyclocross championships are being held at Whitworth Park Darley Dale on Saturday 5th December. This is an ideal event for younger riders to try out cyclocross for the first time in the park where youngsters coaching takes place.

A chance for riders to compete for the title of BSCA East Midlands champion.
Age categories are as follows:
U7 – Infant school (10 mins + 1 lap)
U9 – Year 3&4 (15 mins + 1 lap)
U11 – Year 5&6 (20 mins + 1 lap)
U13 – Year 7&8 (25 mins + 1 lap)
U15 – Year 9&10 (30 mins + 1 lap)
O15 – Year 11, 12&13 (40 mins + 1 lap)

Rider eligibility for the Championship is dependent on their school being located in the East Midlands area (this may differ to your home area on your race licence for BC members).
BSCA records are being updated onto Computer.
Members not wishing their details to be stored on Computer should contact the General Secretary.
FAQs
What should I put on my entry form? – Check you have entered your age correctly as per first of Sep 2026 (this school year).
Club – If you are part of a cycling club, you can fill this in, or you can leave it blank.
School/club colour- Helps us to identify you if we can’t quite see your number, please just put whatever colour jersey/top you intend to wear.
Best result-If you have completed in BSCA CX previously, fill this in, otherwise you can just put N/A.
Can I enter if my school is not in the Midlands? – You are very welcome to enter if you want to ride for the experience (and it is a great introduction to cyclo-cross) but you will not be eligible for prizes/certificates if you go to school outside of the East Midlands (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire).
Where is the event? – The event is being held at Whitworth Park, DE4 2EQ.
Is there parking? – There is a paid car park available; please check the signage on arrival for details. There is sometimes on-street parking available nearby, but please park considerately.
Are there any facilities at the venue? – There is a café (usually open from 10am) and public toilets in The Whitworth (the main building in the park).
What happens if the weather is bad? – Mud is all part of the fun with cyclocross! This is a fully outdoor event; please dress appropriately for the weather. In the event of extreme weather making the event unsafe to go ahead, this will be communicated by email and on Matlock CC social media.
I’ve never raced before, what do I do? – Arrive with plenty of time to get signed on and warmed up (we would recommend at least 45 minutes before your race time to reduce stress!). Head to sign-on and find someone in hi-viz who will talk you through what you need to do. Sign-on will be in the bottom corner of the park below the play area, near the skate bowl. You will be given a number and safety pins, please attach this to the back of your jersey (or whatever top you choose to wear); ideally as low down as possible to make it easier to read.
There will be a chance to ride the course before the first race (u7).
You will be called to the start a few minutes before your race and will be set off in a group; the race officials will time the first few laps and then display a board to let you know how many more laps the front riders will ride. There will be a bell on the final lap. Sometimes, if you are lapped, you may ride less laps; that’s part of cyclo-cross, don’t panic!
The course will be taped and there will be marshals on the course so you can’t get lost; if you are unsure or anything goes wrong, someone will help you.
After your race please return your number and sign out so we know you have finished.
What time is my race? – Approximate times as follows but these are subject to change (categories may race together in the event of low numbers). Please arrive in good time.

Are there any prizes? – Yes; there are certificates for everyone and medals and prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd boys and girls in each age group. We aim to complete prize presentations as soon as possible after each age group. When we have high numbers of entries this can take a little time, so please be patient. There are certificates for every competitor, so please wait for prize giving if you can; these are brilliant to take into school. Results will be emailed out after the event. Please raise any queries as soon as possible.
Can I bring my jet wash to clean my bike? – There are no “pits” at this event and jet washers are not permitted in the park (please don’t be tempted to wash your bike in the duck pond either!); please respect this and clean your bike once you get home; we have previously had issues with large quantities of mud being left in the car park.
Time Trial and Circuit Championships Saturday 6th June 2026
The British Schools Cycling Association East Midlands Time Trial and Circuit Championships are coming up at the Darley Moor circuit on Saturday 6th June. Age categories from U7 to O15. Details and entry for both the TT and Circuit are at the link below. Remember if you want to do both events there are two different entry forms. You can also do one or the other event if you choose. Please note the entry closing date is 30th May after which entries can’t be accepted due to event administration, so get those entries in!
